Cannabis, also known as hemp, or marijuana, gets a bad reputation and has done for approximately 100 years. However, an important distinction needs to be made before I delve into my experience of drinking CBD tea from the Wild Health Co.
The belief that having any cannabis will get you high is not true. Only cannabis with a significant THC content will give you the sensation of being high. CBD, on the other hand, does not have this effect – in fact, it is known to have numerous health benefits due to its complex and natural chemical concoction.
These health benefits include a reduction in inflammation, reduced stress, anxiety relief, and pain relief, just to name a few. To put a personal touch on this, my experience with CBD tea is related mostly to a reduction in stress and anxiety.
The CBD Tea Test
As I wasn’t entirely familiar with cannabis as a whole before, I was cautious to give it a go. Like a curious cat sniffing their known territory, I gave the tea bag a feel and a short sniff to see how it smelled compared to my normal tea.
Honestly, I was impressed with how sturdy the tea bag felt, especially with it being made from Soilon – a mesh made from polylactic acid that is completely biodegradable. The smell, however, put me off very slightly, but I was curious so I wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass me by.
It all changed once I tasted it though. I picked the Mellow Morning CBD tea, which features black tea, natural hemp, and no GMOs or pesticides. The aroma that I got from smelling the tea bag wasn’t strong at all in the tea. If anything, it added a smooth additional flavour to the black tea, making it genuinely delicious.
The CBD effect
As I mentioned before, CBD has been known to relieve a variety of health issues, such as stress, anxiety, inflammation, and chronic pain. My main concerns before taking CBD was whether it would alleviate stress levels and lower anxiety.
In short: it did.
Obviously, I wasn’t high, but I did notice a definite change in my mood – especially when I was in a higher stress situation. I naturally felt calmer, and somewhat more prepared for work. It became my regular morning brew to set me up before work. Each cup only has 3mg of CBD, too.
If I needed a pick-me-up throughout the day, the Wild Health Co CBD flapjacks did the trick. They have a higher CBD content (30mg per flapjack), but the taste isn’t compromised at all. However, despite the higher CBD content, the effect it has isn’t significantly different from having the tea. One didn’t make me super chill while the other made me feel just fine – they feel relatively equal.
